Programming Committee 

In December 2022, Martin Baxa, Minister of Culture of the Czech Republic, appointed a Programming Committee to prepare the Czech Republic’s contribution as Guest of Honour at the 2026 Frankfurt Book Fair. The committee comprises 24 experts from the world of books and literature, cultural institutions, cultural management, and translation.

prof. PhDr. Tomáš Kubíček, Ph.D.

Moravian Library in Brno

Bohemist and literary historian. At the Institute for Czech Literature of the Czech Academy of Sciences, he founded the Department of Prose Theory and a tradition of narratological research. He has also headed the Department of Bohemian Studies at Palacký University in Olomouc.

He has been Director of the Moravian Library in Brno since 2014. He teaches at Charles University. He has published monographs on narratology and 20th-century Czech literature.

Ing. Martin Krafl

Moravian Library in Brno / Czech Literary Centre

Manager for promotion of culture (especially literature), presenter, journalist, and press spokesperson. He now works at the Moravian Library in Brno as Programme Coordinator for the presentation of the Czech Republic at international book fairs. He is also the head of CzechLit.

PhDr. Petr Hnízdo

Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic

Director of the International Relations Department at the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, he served as Director of the City of Vienna Liaison Office in Prague, headed the Central Bohemian Region’s representation in Brussels, and served as director of the Foreign Affairs Department at the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic and PR Manager at Deutsche Schule Prag, among other positions.

Mgr. Eliška Boumová

Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic

A Bohemist, she works in the Department of Literature and Libraries at the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic. Previously, she worked at the Museum of Czech Literature as secretary of the Most Beautiful Czech Books of the Year competition and was involved in the production of other events organised by the institution. She collaborates with the Faculty of Arts of Charles University and teaches Czech as a foreign language.

PhDr. Adriana Krásová

Czech Centres

She served for several years as Director of the Czech Centre in Madrid and coordinator of the Literature Night programme. A specialist in literature at the Czech Centres and a translator, she has been involved in a number of international cultural projects.

Mgr. František Reismüller, Ph.D.

CzechTourism

Director of CzechTourism. In 2013, he established a CzechTourism international office in Shanghai, China, serving as its director for four years. Later he worked for two years for the European Travel Commission (ETC) in Brussels as a marketing and project manager and specialist on China. He then returned to CzechTourism as Director for Marketing and International Offices and was appointed CEO in November 2023.

Ing. Pavla Petrová, Ph.D.

Department of Arts Management, Prague University of Economics and Business

A cultural manager with long-term experience in cultural institutions and project work. Between 2008 and 2025 she served as Director of the Arts and Theatre Institute and as General Director of the world’s largest scenography exhibition, the Prague Quadrennial. She has been a member of numerous expert bodies, networks, and platforms in the Czech Republic and abroad. In addition to teaching, she is also engaged in research and consultancy in the field of cultural and creative industries and is the author of the national profile of the Czech Republic in the Compendium of Cultural Policies and Trends in Europe.

Literary Agent

A literary agent specialising in contemporary Czech fiction. She works closely with Host, a leading Czech publishing house. She represents bestselling authors and winners of prestigious literary awards.

prof. PhDr. Petr A. Bílek, CSc.

Prose fiction expert

A Czech literary theorist and historian who is Head of the Department of Comparative Literature at the Institute of Czech Literature and Comparative Literature, Faculty of Arts, Charles University. His main interests are text interpretation, narratology, and the methodology of literary and cultural history. He is the author of nearly fifty studies, some of which have been published in English, French, German, Italian, Hungarian, Croatian, and Japanese, in addition to Czech and Slovak.

Mgr. Pavel Kořínek, Ph.D.

Comic book expert

A literary researcher, historian, and comic book theorist, he works at the Institute for Czech Literature of the Czech Academy of Sciences. Together with Tomáš Prokůpek, Martin Foret and Michal Jareš, he co-authored A History of Czechoslovak Comics in the 20th Century and the handbook In Panels and Bubbles: Chapters from Comics Theory. Together with Lucie Kořínková, he co-edited the monograph and anthology Punťa: The Forgotten Hero of Czech Comics, 1934–1942.

PhDr. Jana Čeňková, Ph.D.

Expert on children’s and YA literature

She works at the Department of Journalism at the Institute of Communication Studies and Journalism at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University. She focuses on the history, criticism and editing of Czech literature and is a scenarist for book exhibitions. She also specialises in the history and criticism of literature and illustrations for children and young adults. In recent years, she has co-authored the collective monographs War Childhood and Youth (1938–1945) in Literature and Journalism and Do You Know Who a Lyricist Is? On Poetry for Children and the Young (Readers). Her studies have also been published in German and Japanese.

Mgr. et Mgr. Jan Heller, Ph.D.

Poetry expert

Literary critic and editor. He is a graduate of Czech language and literature and comparative literature from the Faculty of Arts of Charles University and Protestant theology from the Protestant Theological Faculty of Charles University. He completed his postgraduate studies in anthropology at the Faculty of Humanities of Charles University. He engages in literary criticism, essay writing, journalism, and translation criticism, and also works as an editor and translator. He published the monograph The Image of the Other in 19th-Century Czech Travel Writing in 2020 and the collection of poetry Tendencies in 2021. In 2019, he received the Tvárnice Award for Literary Critic of the Year, presented by the biweekly literary magazine Tvar. He works as director of the AMU Publishing House in Prague and has been editor-in-chief of Tvar since 2023.

prof. PhDr. Michal Stehlík, Ph.D.

Memorial of National Literature

Historian and Slovakist who is now Director of the Memorial of National Literature. From 2006 to 2014, he was Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Charles University. Until 2023, he worked at the National Museum. From 2014 to 2015, he was Chairman of the Board of Czech Radio. His main interests are 20th-century history and history in the public sphere.

Mgr. Martin Janeček

Expert on non-fiction

He works in the international department of the Karolinum Publishing House and as deputy director. He has long been involved in non-fiction, translations of Czech literature, and Czech studies abroad.

Dr. Christina Frankenberg

Translator, Bohemist

Bohemist, translator and deputy director of the Czech Centre in Berlin responsible for the centre’s cultural programme, especially in the fields of literature, film, and Czech studies. She translates contemporary prose and works on subjects of literature, literary studies, art, and history.

Jean-Gaspard Páleníček

Translator, curator

Czech-French writer, translator, and curator. He studied Czech language and literature and literary studies at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, and at the Sorbonne in Paris. He worked at the Czech Centre in Paris, among other things as a curator and exhibition organiser. He is the composer of several piano pieces. His translations into French include works by Miloš Doležal, Vladimír Holan, Bohumil Hrabal, J. H. Krchovský, Jaroslav Seifert, and Richard Weiner.

Radovan Auer

Book World Prague international fair

He has devoted his entire professional life to event management. Over ten years he held various positions at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival. As executive producer, he was involved in production of the film Samotáři [Loners]. He also worked as marketing director for the project Pilsen 2015 – European Capital of Culture. He is currently Director of the Book World Prague international book fair and literary festival. He is a member of the Board of the Czech Literary Centre.

Mgr. Michal Zahálka

Czech Literary Translators’ Guild

Theatrologist, dramaturge, and translator from English and French. He works as a book editor at the Arts and Theatre Institute and with the Argo publishing house as an editor and translator. He is a member of the Programming Committee of the DIVADLO international festival (held in Plzeň) and a doctoral student at the Institute of Translation Studies at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University.

Mgr. Jan Němec

Czech Writers’ Association

Writer and journalist. From 2014 to 2016, he was chairman of the Czech Writers’ Association. Since 2022, he has been editor-in-chief of the literary monthly Host. His best-known works include The History of Light, for which he received the European Union Prize for Literature in 2014, and the auto-fictional work The Possibilities of a Love Story.

Ing. Daniel Podhradský

publisher

Owner of the Dauphin Publishing House who works as an editor, graphic designer and publisher. He has been running his publishing house since 1994 and has published more than 500 books, mostly fiction for demanding readers, philosophy, and poetry. He is founder of the LitArt Foundation, the Publishers’ Guild professional association, and the Družstevní práce association. He is a member of the board of the Association of Czech Booksellers and Publishers and chairman of the committees for small publishers and literary fiction. He is also the founder and main organizer of the BookFest book festivals and their derivatives, including Parukářka Book and Knižní slunovrat [Book Solstice].

Mgr. Tomáš Karlík

Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic

He works at the Ministry of Industry and Trade as a Senior Ministerial Advisor on exports support. He has long been involved in supporting Czech companies on foreign markets through their participation in foreign trade fairs and exhibitions, various services to support Czech exports, and at the strategic level. He studied law, international relations, and industrial law at the Industrial Property Office.

ak. mal. Renáta Fučíková

Illustrator, designer

Czech artist and illustrator who is head of the Studio of Didactic Illustration at the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art. Her primary focus is on creation of original books about history. She has received numerous awards, including several Golden Ribbons, three nominations for a Magnesia Litera, the Grand Prix in Zagreb in 2018, and a prize at the Tehran Biennial of Illustration in 1997. Between 2011 and 2013, she was nominated three times in a row by the Czech Republic for the prestigious Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award.

Tomáš Jelínek, Ph.D.

Czech-German Future Fund

Director of the Czech-German Future Fund. After completing courses in area studies, history and political science in Prague, Erlangen and Düsseldorf, he worked in the office of President Václav Havel, for Swiss Radio (DRS), and at the Office for Victims of Nazism in Prague. He has also worked for the non-profit organisation Living Memory, on the Supervisory Board of the German Federal EVZ Foundation, and on the advisory board of the Topographie des Terrors Foundation in Berlin.

Cultural Manager

Director of the DEPO2015 creative zone in Plzeň. He gained experience of exhibition pavilions and large cultural projects thanks to his involvement in projects such as Pilsen 2015 – European Capital of Culture, EXPO2010 – Shanghai, EXPO2017 – Astana, and EXPO2020 – Dubai.
