↓ Criteria for selecting authors

The authors will be selected by the project’s Programming Committee. The selection will take place at the beginning of 2026.

The selection will be based on information about translated books from the database of the Association of German Booksellers and Publishers and a list of books supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic as part of its support programme for translations.

Primary criteria

• The author has a new translation into German published in 2025 or 2026. A translation with the year of publication 2024 will be considered if it was supported by a grant from the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.

• The author can participate in person in events related to the presence of the Guest of Honour and is interested in meeting a foreign audience.

• A German-language publishing house is interested in promoting the author and his/her work during the week of the Frankfurt Book Fair.

Secondary criteria

• The author has a new translation into another world language (English, French, Spanish) published between 2024 and 2026.

• The author has been awarded a major literary prize in the Czech Republic or abroad between 2020 and 2026.

• The currently published work in Czech fits thematically with the concept Czechia: a Country on the Coast, which underpins the presence of the Czech Republic as Guest of Honour.
