Kristina Kallert was a student of East Slavic Philology and German Studies in Regensburg and St Petersburg, then of Czech Studies in Brno. She has been translating from Czech since 1998. Her new translations or first translations of classic works by authors such as Božena Němcová, Julius Zeyer, Vladislav Vančura and Jiří Langer have attracted great attention. She has also translated writings by Milena Jesenská and Jiří Kolář, and most recently three books by Bohumila Grögerová. Her translation work also comprises contemporary prose and poetry as well as numerous professional translations in the fields of literature, art, theology and history. Her translation of Jiří Hájíček’s latest novel is planned for autumn 2026.
