↓ Criteria for Selecting Authors

The authors will be selected by the project’s Dramaturgical Board. The selection will take place at the beginning of 2026.

The selection will be based on information about translated books from the database of the German Booksellers and Publishers Association and a list of books supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic as part of its support programme for translations.

Primary Criteria

• The author has a new translation into German published between 2025 and 2026. The year of publication 2024 will be taken into account if the translation was supported by a grant provided by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.

• The author can personally participate in events related to the guest of honour appearance and is interested in meeting a foreign audience.

• A German-language publishing house is interested in promoting the author and his/her work during Frankfurt Book Fair week.

Secondary Criteria

• The author has a new translation into another world language (English, French, Spanish) published between 2024 and 2026.

• The author has been awarded a major literary prize in the Czech Republic or abroad between 2020 and 2026.

• The currently published work in Czech fits thematically into the concept of the Czech guest of honour appearance under the title Czechia – A Country on the Coast.
