Petra Dvořáková (b. 1977) gained a wide readership with Proměněné sny [Transformed Dreams] (2006), a book of interviews for which she won a Magnesia Litera award. She drew further attention with her prose works Já jsem hlad [I Am Hunger] (2009), about anorexia nervosa, and Sítě – příběhy (ne)sebevědomí [The Net] (2016), about low self-esteem.

The children’s book Julie mezi slovy [Julie and Words] (2013) won a Golden Ribbon award in the Fiction for Children and Young Adults category and the Teachers’ Prize for its contribution to the development of children’s reading. The author’s other books for young readers include Flouk a Líla [Flouk and Lila) (2015), Každý má svou lajnu [Everyone Has a Line to Hold] (2017), and Až vyjde první hvězda [When the First Star Comes Out] (2025). 

Petra became a best-selling author with the novel Dědina [The Village] (2018). This was followed by the novel Chirurg [The Surgeon] (2019) and the novella Vrány [Crows] (2020), for which she won the Book of the Year award in the Literary Prose category. Her other books include Zahrada [The Garden] (2022), Pláňata [Wild Cherry Trees] (2023), and Návrat [The Return] (2025).  

She is also the author of Věřil jsem, že to musí jít lepší cestou [I Believed There Must Be a Better Way], a book-length interview with paediatric haemato-oncologist Professor Jan Starý, and Bertíkovo uzdravení [Bertík’s Recovery], a guide for children undergoing treatment for cancer.Her books are also bestsellers in Poland. Crows is very popular in Serbia.
