This discussion is based on a survey of Czech-language teaching in Germany in all its diversity, from private schools with Czech classes for Czech-speaking children and young adults, to Czech-language teaching at secondary schools in Czech-German border regions, to the study of Czech at German universities. What is available currently, what trends are emerging, and what still needs to be resolved? How might German and Czech state institutions improve support for Czech-language learning? What do online translations generated by artificial intelligence mean for the future of a “small” foreign language and those who learn it?
