In her large-format drawing, Kateřina Čupová revisits the final scene of Karel Čapek’s play R.U.R., which she adapted into an acclaimed comic book in 2020. On a remote island, Alquist, the last human alive, stands before a crumbling factory, the ruins of which are gradually being reclaimed by new life. The calm surface of the sea contrasts with the factory and the lush vegetation, whilst representing solitude, a source of sustenance and hope. The composition will feature an excerpt from Alquist’s monologue from the original play. The work will be created by a combination of Wall Ink robotic printing and hand-drawn illustration.
