Large-format nonfiction books: Bridges, Bicycle. Transport of the future for movement over land and across country. As well as making travel quicker, bridges can be beautiful. Magda Garguláková and Jakub Bachorík present bridges of outstanding length, those most photographed, those with most bricks, etc. The bicycle is described as sought-after, eco-friendly transport and presented in the broader context of its history and significance for our present. In both books, explanations are fact-based, clear and supplemented by detailed drawings; in Bridges, drawings are magnificent and lavishly coloured. The illustrators occasionally stray to the playful form of comics. Both books won a 2025 Czech Golden Ribbon award: one went to Jakub Bachorík in the Illustration category for Bridges, the other to Ondřej Buddeus in the Text category for Bicycle. In the same year, Bicycle was nominated for the Jugendliteraturpreis in the Nonfiction category. These titles will be presented by the authors.
