What links a Czech writer, a blind reader of Braille, and Dialogmuseum, which lies beneath Frankfurt’s Hauptwache square? A love of stories that can be experienced with all the senses! Jaroslav Rudiš wanted to be a train driver, but limitations with his vision ruled this out. Many blind and partially sighted staff at Dialogmuseum have had similar experiences. Career dreams change, new paths open up. Petty Waagö, blind head of the team of guides, will read from the Braille edition of Rudiš’s Railways: A User’s Guide, a work whose vivid, detailed prose makes reading a multi-sensory experience by bringing landscape, sound and atmosphere to life far beyond the limits of the visible. With Tino Dallmann (MDR Kultur), Rudiš will discuss train travel, perception, journeys of a lifetime, and why the most beautiful route is not always the quickest. This event is part of Czechia’s programme as guest of honour at the fair; it is held in collaboration with Czechia 2026, dzb lesen and Piper Verlag.
