Is the literary theme of adolescence inexhaustible? What are the expectations of emerging Czech writers, the conditions in which they find themselves, and the stereotypes they have to deal with? Novels by Dorota Ambrožová and Sára Zeithammerová have heroines searching for a place in an often hostile world at their centre. One rebels against a narrow-minded notion of how a teenage girl should live; the other sees the Virgin Mary in the woods – to the displeasure of her mother, at least at first. How can the new Czech literary feminism be characterized? And what does it have to say about motherhood? The novelists will be in conversation with their colleague Jonáš Zbořil.
