(b. 1963) emigrated to Germany in 1983. She graduated in Eastern European History and Slavonic Studies in Hamburg and Glasgow. She has been translating contemporary Czech (and Slovak) fiction into German for over twenty years. Notable authors in her translation include Radka Denemarková, Jaroslav Rudiš, Jáchym Topol, Kateřina Tučková and Katarína Kucbelová. She moderates author’s readings and other events. Her numerous awards include the renowned Literaturpreis der Kunststiftung NRW - Straelener Übersetzerpreis for lifetime achievement (2024) and the Brücke Berlin Literatur- und Übersetzerpreis for translation of Radka Denemarková’s novel Hodiny z olova [Hours of Lead] (2022; together with the author).
