Stefanie Bose

Stefanie Bose is a literary translator, interpreter and cultural mediator. She translates Czech and Slovak literature of many genres into German – fiction, nonfiction, poetry, literature for children and young adults, as well as scripts and subtitles for films and plays. She organizes and moderates authors’ readings and other presentations, is a public reader, and has an interest in audio description. Her translations have been published in books, magazines, and online (e.g. in the Goethe-Institut’s online magazine JÁDU and the magazines Ostragehege and Lichtungen). She is a member of the German Translators’ Association (VdÜ) and the Slovak association DoSlov. In 2023, she won the Susanna Roth Award for emerging translators for her translation of an extract from Anna Beata Hablová’s novel Směna [The Shift]. In 2025, she was awarded a scholarship for a TROJICA AIR translation residency in Banská Štiavnica. From May to September 2026, she will be the city chronicler of the European Capital of Culture project in Trenčín, Slovakia. She lives in Leipzig.

Czech authors with whom she has worked include Kateřina Tučková, Jana Poncarová, Lukáš Vavrečka, Lukáš Csicsely, Anna Beata Háblová and Bernadeta Babáková.
