Iljašenko Marie

Marie Iljašenko (b. 1983) was born in Kyiv into a family of Ukrainian-Polish-Czech descent. In 1992, she and her parents moved to the Broumov region, where she grew up. She has published the poetry collections Zvířata přicházejí do města [Animals Come to Town] (Host, 2025), about the coexistence of humans and animals in the big city, Sv. Outdoor [St. Outdoor] (Host, 2019), and Osip míří na jih [Osip Heads South] (Host, 2014). Her poems have been translated into many languages and shortlisted for several literary awards. In 2023, she won the Tom Stoppard Prize for best essay in Czech. She works as a book editor and translates contemporary poetry from Polish and Ukrainian. She lives in Prague.
