Iljašenko Marie

Marie Iljašenko

Marie Iljašenko (b. 1983) was born in Kyiv into a family of Ukrainian-Polish-Czech descent. In 1992, she and her parents moved to the Broumov region, where she grew up. She has published the poetry collections Zvířata přicházejí do města [Animals Come to Town] (Host, 2025), about the coexistence of humans and animals in the big city, Sv. Outdoor [St. Outdoor] (Host, 2019), and Osip míří na jih [Osip Heads South] (Host, 2014). Her poems have been translated into many languages and shortlisted for several literary awards. In 2023, she won the Tom Stoppard Prize for best essay in Czech. She also writes short stories, works as a book editor, and translates contemporary poetry from Polish and Ukrainian. She lives in Prague.

Books translated into English, German, Polish, Hungarian, Spanish, Greek, and Slovenian.
