An autobiographical comic book can cause upset. Its images are the responsibility of its creator, who must stand by them before a readership, critics and themselves. And where do “others” come in? As none of us is an island, every autobiographical comic book comprises many small reports on people around its creator, random passers-by as well as people close to them. Štěpánka Jislová and Lucie Lomová, both leading creators of Czech comics today, have in recent years published openly autobiographical works that do much more than skim the surface. Why did they choose to write an autobiography, and how did they address the problem of portraying those close to them?
