Czech literature series issued by foreign publishing houses

Cikán Ondřej
De Vito Alessandro
Różewicz Julia

Czech literature can draw on the long-standing cooperation of several publishing houses abroad that specialize in works by Czech writers. These include Afera (Poland), Miraggi (Italy) and Kētos (Austria). All three were founded by translators from Czech, namely Julia Różewicz, Alessandro de Vito and Ondřej Cikán. What motivated them to set up their own publishing house? How is Czech literature faring in their countries, and which of the books they have published has been best received by critics and readers? What are the criteria for selection of titles for their lists? They will discuss all this and more with Martin Janeček of Karolinum Press, which for over twenty years has maintained a “Modern Czech Classics” translation series in collaboration with non-Czech Bohemists.

Miraggi: Alessandro De Vito, Afera: Julia Różewicz, Kétos: Ondřej Cikán, moderation: Martin Janeček
