Imaginary worlds and alternative realities built with playfulness and creativity are rarer than they once were in Czech fiction. Michal Ajvaz and Miroslav Hlaučo create worlds that transcend the boundaries of ordinary experience. While their imagination serves them as knowledge and adds zest to reality, the intertextual and metatextual character of the writing combines playfully with the poetics of the fantastic.
