The exhibition highlights Kunze’s personal and literary ties to Ludvík Kundera, Milan Kundera, and Jan Skácel, and demonstrates the important role Czech poetry played in his life and work. It also devotes special attention to the prose work The Miraculous Years and to the themes of the 1968 occupation of Czechoslovakia, the lack of freedom, and solidarity with Czech authors.
This bilingual Czech-German exhibition was created on the occasion of the 2026 Frankfurt Book Fair, where the Czech Republic is the Guest of Honour. It was organized by the Reiner and Elisabeth Kunze Foundation in collaboration with the German Exile Archive 1933–1945 at the German National Library and the Milan Kundera Library, part of the Moravian Library in Brno. The project was supported by the Dr. Hans-Karl Fischer Foundation and the Czech-German Future Fund.
You can visit the exhibition through October 30, 2026, in the plaza in front of the German National Library in Frankfurt am Main.
