Tomáš Dianiška

Tomáš Dianiška (b. 1984) is a theatre and film actor and director, as well as an award-winning playwright. He gained a degree in Dramatic Acting at the Theatre Faculty of Prague’s Academy of Performing Arts (DAMU) in 2008. His first engagement was at the F. X. Šalda Theatre in Liberec. Since 2014, he has been engaged by the Palmovka Theatre as an actor, dramatist and director.

He has written more than twenty plays for numerous theatres, although the Palmovka remains his base. He was named “Talent of the Year” by theatre critics in 2017 and has won numerous awards in the years since.

Dianiška has written for Czech Radio for many years. In 2019, he received critics’ awards for Best Production and Best New Czech Play for Transky, body, vteřiny [Blood, Sweat and Queers]. A year later, his production of 294 Statečných [The Magnificent 294] won the award for Best New Czech Play, the Divadelní noviny Award, and a number of other accolades. In 2021, all of his new plays were nominated for Critics’ Awards, the award ultimately going to Dianiška’s Špinarka [Špinarová].

He also won the award for Best New Czech Play in 2024, for Tělo tajné agentky [The Body of a Secret Agent].

Tomáš Dianiška is known for his keen sense of humour and irony and pop-culture references that help him connect with younger audiences. Lítá v tom [White Lie], Dianiška’s first comedy film, was released in 2023. He is currently working on Bojovník [The Fighter], a sports drama set in the world of MMA, whose premiere is scheduled for 2026.
