
Štěpán Kučera (b. 1985) is a graduate in Journalism and Media Studies from Charles University in Prague. He works as an editor for Salon, the literary supplement of the daily newspaper Právo. His publications include the short story collection Jidáš byl ufon… a jiné příběhy [Judas Was an Alien... and Other Stories] (2016), the novels Projekt Gilgameš [The Gilgamesh Project] (2019; shortlisted for the Magnesia Litera Award for Prose) and Největší lekce dona Quijota [Don Quixote’s Greatest Lesson] (2021; shortlisted for the Magnesia Litera Award for Prose), the reportage-style prose works Gablonz / Jablonec (2022; longlisted for the Magnesia Litera Award for Journalism, Liberec Region Book of the Year) and Alžírské arabesky [Algerian Arabesques] (2023; longlisted for Best Documentary Book at the Ji.hlava Festival), and the collection of interviews with Czech and international scientists Jen další konec světa: 33 rozhovorů o antropocénu, „věku člověka” [Just Another End of the World: 33 Interviews on the Anthropocene, the “Age of Man”] (2024). He contributed to the Czech-Polish anthology Z obou břehů / Z obu brzegów [From Both Banks] as co-editor and co-author. He also wrote most of the lyrics for the 2025 album Hladům vlčím [Hungry Wolves] by the band NerkrmiT.
His works have been translated into English, French and German.
