
Hana D. Lehečková (b. 1990) is from southern Bohemia. She is a graduate in Theory and Criticism from the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (DAMU). She debuted as a playwright in 2012, when she won a drama competition at the Švanda Theatre, which went on to stage her play V(ý)chod [Entrance/Exit]. In addition to her work for the theatre, she writes radio drama; her works include Johana a továrna na sny [Joanna and the Dream Factory], Co se stalo se Zuzanou [What Happened to Susan], and Proč je Max taková [Why Is Max This Way?]. Her series Vesmírné putování komety Julie [The Cosmic Voyages of Julie the Comet] was broadcast on Czech Radio as a live reading. In 2020, Lehečková’s psychotic novella Svatá hlava [Sacred Head] won the prestigious Jiří Orten Award for authors under thirty. Her autobiographical novel Poupátka [Buds] has gained wider recognition, too. She works as an editor of children’s books at the Albatros publishing house.
