Tomáš Ráliš (b. 1997) graduated in Direction of Dramatic Theatre from the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (DAMU). While still a student, he directed plays including his own at renowned Czech theatres. He has been a permanent director at Prague City Theatres since 2025. His productions and plays have received numerous awards in the Czech Republic and abroad. He won the main prize at the prestigious Evald Schorm Drama Awards three years in a row (2020–22); he has since taken second place in the same competition for the plays Vyhubyt [FlatOut] and Slučitelné díly [Compatible Parts]. He was involved in the projects Fabulamundi Playwriting Europe, Studio for New Drama (at Prague’s National Theatre) and Drama Revival (an international project for playwrights). His radio play Sleduj! [Follow!], about YouTubers and influencers, won the Student Jury Award and third place in the Drama category at the 2023 Prix Bohemia Radio festival. In the same year, Ráliš was named Talent of the Year at Theatre Critics’ Awards.
In 2024, he was one of the playwrights selected for participation in the renowned Obrador d’estiu international workshop at Sala Beckett in Barcelona, where his play was put on within the GREC festival. In 2025, the German-speaking Eurodram committee chose to bring Ráliš’s play Sorex to the stage at the Dramatiker|innenfestival in Graz and the Stück für Stück festival in Mannheim. Two of Ráliš’s latest plays, Ofélie OnlyFans [Ophelia OnlyFans] (premiered in 2025 at Prague’s Komedie Theatre, directed by the author) and Compatible Parts (premiered in 2025 at the Klicper Theatre in Hradec Králové, directed by the author) were nominated for the 2025 Czech Play of the Year at the Theatre Critics’ Awards; Compatible Parts was the winner. FlatOut won the Audience Award at the 2025 Ein Stück: Tschechien festival in Berlin. FlatOut, Sorex, Ophelia OnlyFans and Compatible Parts have been translated into German, the latter as Kompatible Teile.
Other plays have been translated into English, Italian, Polish and Spanish.
