
Klára Vlasáková (b. 1990) is a Czech writer, screenwriter, dramatist, dramaturge and journalist. She is a graduate in Journalism and Gender Studies from Prague’s Charles University, as well as of Scriptwriting and Dramaturgy from the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU).
She wrote the screenplay for the feature film Běžná selhání [Ordinary Failures] (2022), which premiered at the Venice International Film Festival and for which she won the prize for Best Screenplay at the Festival de films d´auteur de Val-Morin in Canada. She is also active in radio work, having written a number of plays and scripts for podcasts including Neklid [Disquiet] (2021) and Rituál [The Ritual] (2022). Her audio work has won several awards, including the Prix Bohemia Radio, and has featured at international festivals. Her stage play Lhářky [Liars] (2024) won the Theatre Critics’ Award for Best Czech Play.
Vlasáková debuted as a prose writer with the novel Praskliny [Cracks] (2020), whose genre straddles science fiction and dystopia; the plot revolves around a mysterious spherical object that descends to Earth. Cracks was shortlisted for the 2021 Jiří Orten Award.
Těla [Bodies], Vlasáková’s second novel, explores themes of motherhood and emancipation. In December 2023, Bodies was named Book of the Year by the daily Deník N, based on a poll of readers and a panel of experts.
Vlasáková also works as a programme manager at Czech Television. Her articles regularly appear in leading Czech media outlets.
