On May 19, the Literarisches Colloquium Berlin hosted a literary evening dedicated to contemporary Czech literature. Under the motto “A Country on the Coast,” inspired by Shakespeare and linked to the presentation of the Czech Republic as the Guest of Honour at the 2026 Frankfurt Book Fair, Alice Horáčková, Petr Šesták, Miloš Doležal, and Jakub Grec took the stage.
Alice Horáčková presented her family novel “Rozpůlený dům”, which will be published in German translation by Diogenes Verlag this fall. Petr Šesták spoke about his novella “Vyhoření”, the story of a bike courier navigating urban traffic chaos. Miloš Doležal discussed his work dedicated to the forgotten victims of totalitarian regimes. Together with Jakub Grec, he also presented his work on an illustrated biography of the Czech architect Vladimír Grégr. The evening was moderated by Maximilian Mengeringhaus. The event was held in cooperation with the Czech Center Berlin.
