Clauberg Theresa

Theresa Clauberg (born 1990) is a German–Czech translator, cultural manager, and violinist whose work is situated at the intersection of literary translation, intercultural communication, and music. With a bilingual upbringing in a German–Czech family, she has developed a transnational perspective that informs both her academic trajectory and professional practice, particularly in the field of cultural mediation between Czech and German-speaking contexts.

She studied Translation Studies and Transcultural Communication at the University of Vienna, with a focus on Czech and Spanish, literary translation, interpreting and intercultural competence. Parallel, she pursued music studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, specialising in violin performance at master’s level. Her artistic training has contributed significantly to her interpretative and intercultural approach to cultural work, particularly in relation to Central European musical traditions.

Her academic excellence and engagement with Czech–German literary exchange have been recognised through several distinctions. In 2019, she was awarded the Susanna Roth Prize for young translators. In 2021, she was selected for the CzechLit Residency Scholarship, which enabled her participation in a translator-in-residence programme in Prague, focusing on the development of literary translation practice and professional exchange.

Since 2025, Theresa Clauberg has been working as Head of Communications at the Czech Centre Vienna, where she is responsible for strategic communication, cultural programming, and the coordination of bilateral cultural initiatives between Austria and the Czech Republic. In this role, she contributes to strengthening institutional cooperation and fostering contemporary cultural dialogue across borders.

As a literary translator, she has translated works of Czech children’s and youth literature into German, for example Schrei leise, Bruder by Ivona Březinová (Schenk Verlag, 2026) or Matilda und der rote Wolf (ACHSE, 2026). Her translation work focuses on cultural transfer, linguistic nuance, and making contemporary Czech literature accessible to German-speaking audiences.

Born in Gräfelfing, Germany, and raised between Germany and the Czech Republic, she moved to Plzeň at the age of twelve, where she completed her secondary education before returning to Germany in 2010. This bilingual and bicultural upbringing plays a central role in her understanding of identity, belonging, and cultural translation, which she also explores in her academic and professional activities.

Theresa Clauberg works in German, Czech, Spanish and English and combines her linguistic expertise, musical background, and cultural management experience to contribute to contemporary European cultural exchange and literary mediation.
