Janka Kathrin

Kathrin Janka (b. 1969) was born in Freiburg im Breisgau and studied Slavic Studies, East and Central European History, Comparative Literature and German Studies at Freie Universität Berlin, Charles University in Prague and the University of Potsdam.

For 25 years, she has worked as a translator and interpreter from Czech, as well as an editor and ambassador for literature, language and culture. Her work spans prose, drama and poetry, academic and journalistic texts, films and first-hand accounts by contemporary witnesses.

Her translations include novels by Magdaléna Platzová, Jakuba Katalpa and Jiří Kratochvíl, short prose by Dora Čechova, Zuzana Říhová and Dora Kaprálová, and poetry by Vít Slíva.
