Novak Helena

Helena Novak studied Slavic Studies and Translation Studies at the University of Vienna and has worked for over twenty years as a freelance translator and interpreter for Czech and German. Literature forms a major focus of her work. For many years, she has accompanied Czech authors as an interpreter at readings, literary events, and book fairs in the German-speaking world, such as Buch Wien or the Leipzig Book Fair.

She regularly collaborates with institutions such as the Austrian Society for Literature, the Independent House of Literature Lower Austria, the Czech Centre Vienna, and the Moravian Library. From 2016 to 2020, she served as a jury member for the Susanna Roth Translation Award for young translators.

At readings and events, she has interpreted for Petra Soukupová, Alena Mornštajnová, Markéta Pilátová, Markéta Hejkalová, Dora Kaprálová, Marek Toman, Ester Stará, Judita Matyášová, and Petr Stančík, among others.
