
Barbora Schnelle is a scholar of Czech theatre and culture who lives in Berlin and works as a freelance translator. Plays in her Czech translation include works by Elfriede Jelinek, Peter Handke, Werner Schwab, Yael Ronen and Sivan Ben Yishai; plays in her German translation include works by Roman Sikora, Eva Prchalová, Kateřina Rudčenková, Tomáš Dianiška and Dagmar Fričová. She is also active as a cultural manager, dramaturg and theatre critic. She is a co-founder of Drama Panorama: Forum für Übersetzung und Theater and the book series of the same name published by Neofelis Verlag. In 2014, she founded Ein Stück: Tschechien, a festival of contemporary Czech theatre in Berlin, which she has led and curated ever since. As a publisher and translator, she has published several anthologies of contemporary Czech drama. In addition to works for theatre, she translates comics; in 2024, she was nominated for the Muriel Award for best comic book. In 2022 and 2024, Barbora Schnelle taught at the Humboldt University of Berlin on a visiting professorship awarded by Deutscher Übersetzerfonds (German Translators’ Fund).
