Andreas Tretner studied interpreting and translation in Leipzig. He initially worked as a technical translator and later as an editor at Reclam Verlag Leipzig. He now lives in Berlin.
For more than 30 years, he has translated literature, both poetry and prose, primarily from Russian and Bulgarian, as well as occasionally from Czech. The authors he has translated include Viktor Pelevin, Vladimir Sorokin, Marina Tsvetaeva and Mikhail Shishkin; Yordan Radichkov, Peyo Yavorov, Aleksandar Vutimski and Zdravka Evtimova; and Josef Škvorecký, Jáchym Topol and Josef Čapek.
