Jakub Bachorík (b. 1994) studied at the Secondary School of Applied Arts in Ústí nad Orlicí; in 2021, he graduated from the Studio of Illustration and Graphic Design of the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (UMPRUM), having studied under Juraj Horváth. His main focus is book illustration, but he also has an interest in comics and other forms. As well as contributing to magazines, he illustrates books for children and adults for publishers including Labyrint, Albatros, Host, Take Take Take, Meander and Leda; he also makes artist’s books of his own. He is a fan of science fiction, motorsports, bizarre motifs, and mysterious worlds. The dissertation work of his Bachelor’s degree, MARS3000, explores the colonization of the Red Planet in a series of large-format woodcuts carved with a chainsaw and a milling machine. His Master’s dissertation, NE-U-VĚ-ŘI -TEL-NÁ fantasmagoria [An UN-BE-LIEVE-A-BLE Phantasmagoria], explores the world of conspiracy theories in a series of seven large-format paintings on advertising tarps. When he’s not exploring strange worlds, he relaxes with music or on the slopes with a snowboard.
