Klára Goldstein

Klára Goldstein (b. 1988) is a Czech poet, literary scholar and translator from Spanish. She studied Czech Language and Literature at the Faculty of Arts of Palacký University in Olomouc, where she began her doctoral studies in 2015.

Her debut collection Milíře [Charcoal Piles] was published by Weles in 2016. She has a strong interest in Czech interwar poetry and Latin American leftist poets, most notably Pablo Neruda. Goldstein’s monograph Pokus o nekonečného Nerudu [Attempting an Infinite Neruda] (FF UP, 2020) addresses the reception of Neruda’s work and persona in the cultural sphere of Czechoslovakia. Her 2018 collection Kenotaf [Cenotaph] explores the theme of political and historical upheaval in Chile. Her collection Falkenfrau [Falkenfrau] (Host, 2021) was nominated for the Magnesia Litera for Poetry. Her collections Deště Maierniggu [Rains of Maiernigg] and Birán [Birán] were published in 2022 and 2025 respectively; the latter was nominated for Cena literární kritiky [Literary Critics’ Award]. Goldstein’s poems are included in the Spanish-Czech anthology De sombra y terciopelo (2021). In 2023, a bilingual selection of her poetry entitled La inesperada nieve de abril was published in Madrid, as, in 2024, was the bilingual anthology of contemporary Czech poetry El vuelo lejano a lo lejos, which Goldstein translated and edited. She is a member of Versopolis, a prestigious European platform for the support and mobility of promising poets.
