Hůlová Petra

Petra Hůlová

Petra Hůlová (b. 1979) studied languages, culturology and anthropology at universities in Prague, Ulaanbaatar and New York (where she was a Fulbright scholar from 2004 to 2005). Often narrated in the first person, her novels range from intimate confession to epic saga. For Hůlová, writing is first and foremost a way to experience another person’s emotional experience as if it were her own and to take herself and the reader outside their comfort zone.

Hůlová also writes plays and screenplays. As part of the Hůlová-Havrda-Vrba collective, she creates original performance art. Between 2014 and 2017, she ran the Zenit bar in the Vršovice district of Prague, where she held exhibitions, concerts and readings. She currently works part-time as a nurse in an intensive care unit.

Nejvyšší karta, Hůlová’s latest novel, will be published in English as The Long Version by New York’s World Editions in October 2026.

Works translated into: English, French, Italian, Hungarian, Dutch, German, Norwegian, Polish, Spanish, Arabic, Bulgarian, Serbian, Croatian, Swedish.
