The literary series “Wellenwelten / Příliv příběhů” focuses on encounters between Czech and German authors, as well as themes that resonate in today’s society.
This time, the writers Anna Beata Háblová and Anette Selg introduced themselves in Berlin. In the discussion moderated by Maria-Christina Piwowarski, they spoke about their debut novels “Směna” (Die Schicht, Geparden Verlag, translated by Julia Miesenböck) and “Das Jahr, bevor ich verschwand” (Schöffling). Both books, each from a different generational perspective, explore the loss of identity, exhaustion and the pressure faced by women in their quest for self-fulfilment.
The discussion also addressed the question of whether and how literature can articulate the fragility and restlessness of today’s generation of women. Christina Frankenberg from the Czech Centre Berlin read German passages from the novel “Die Schicht” in Julie Miesenböck’s translation.
The literary event was organised in collaboration with the Moravian Provincial Library, the Czech Centre Berlin and the Berlin State Library.
