Čechová Miřenka

Miřenka Čechová

Miřenka Čechová (b. 1982) is a performer of dance and physical theatre active in the Czech Republic and abroad. Having graduated from the Dance Conservatory of the City of Prague in Classical Ballet, she went on to study concurrently at two faculties of Prague’s Academy of Performing Arts (Alternative Theatre at DAMU; Nonverbal Theatre at HAMU), earning a doctorate in Physical and Mime Theatre Direction in 2012. In the course of her studies, she was awarded a prestigious Fulbright scholarship for research and teaching at the American University in Washington, DC, becoming its first ever teacher of physical theatre. As a performer, she has appeared in more than 18 full-length productions, many of which have won major international awards. As a director and choreographer, she has worked on over ten full-length productions, often in international co-production. As an academic, she has taught and lectured at several American universities. She is co-founder of two theatre groups. As a writer, she has attracted attention with the “fictional literary-photographic-comics documentary” Miss America (2018) and Baletky [Ballet Dancers] (2020), the fictional diary of a ballet student. Čechová’s latest work of prose is the novel Co já? Co ty? [What About Me? What About You?] (2025).
