
Pavel Novotný (b. 1976) is a poet, translator and Germanist who teaches at the Department of German at the Technical University of Liberec. He is the author of numerous collections of poetry and poem cycles (e.g., Havarijní řád [Emergency Regulations], Tramvestie [Tramvesty], Zápisky z garsonky [Notes from a Bedsit]), fiction (including Babička [The Grandmother]), and radiophonic compositions for Czech Radio. His numerous awards include Prix Bohemia Radio (2010), the Magnesia Litera for Poetry (2021) and the Dresden Poetry Prize (2022). His translations into Czech include works by Hans Magnus Enzensberger and Gerhard Rühm. As a literary scholar, his primary focuses are acoustic literature, the experimental radio play and phonic poetry. His latest book is Mistr [The Master] (2025), the final volume in the five-part Notes from a Bedsit cycle. This October, Novotný holds a scholarship at the Prague House of Literature in Wiesbaden.
